Butoh Dance Theatre Performance

Kathleen Doyle

Kathleen Doyle was an actor with Suzuki Tadashi’s company from Oct.2004 – July.2005.  She performed in Suzuki’s King Lear and Antigone, and trained and rehearsed with the company full time. She was an actor with Tokyo based theatre company Ku Na’uka for 2 years, and performed the role of Aegisthus in Elektra, Dionysus in The Trojan Women and Chorus in Mahabharata. She performed for company Image Opera in their performance Traktor for Tokyo’s HeinerMüller Festival, danced in the Dance GaMitai festival under choreographer IoannaGaragoni, and for choreographer Sanari Tetsuo’s in Fantasy Virus. For 3 years she was the Assistant Director of Dance for Tokyo Space Dance, performing at Tokyo’s Bayside Area, in Nagoya for “ISEA 2002”, at JAXA, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, and she toured to Toronto to perform at Dundas Square.  She was a member of Brisbane’s Frank Theatre for 18 months.

Her training includes over ten years experience with the Suzuki method; ongoing intensive dance training with Butoh/Contemporary dancers, Ohno Kazuo, Kasai Akira, FukuharaTetsuro, and Uesugi Mitsuyo, among others; specialist research in traditional and contemporary Japanese Theatre.
